I love the smell of oak in the morning.
…or at least that’s the excuse I’m claiming for this one. Last Friday I got the bright idea to tear up our kitchen floor to expose the hardwood floor that I knew was beneath the linoleum and plywood underlayment. Nothing could possibly go wrong of course! After tearing up enough linoleum and underlayment I found that there was pre-linoleum adhered directly to the original hardwood floors. Crap. To make things worse it is the really old stuff that has the lovely black tar paper type adhesive permanently bonding it to the wood floor. Thanks original homeowners, way to destroy otherwise beautiful maple flooring.
Here is the linoleum prior to its annihilation.
And here it is being destroyed.
Sassy the helper Pug doing what she does best. Posing.
Original tar-linoleum stuck to the original maple floor.
After exploring numerous flooring options my wife and I decided on new oak. The next series of pictures shows the installation of 3/4″ red and white oak mixed tongue and groove flooring. This was installed using a pneumatic stapler. With the help of my wife’s uncle Chris we had it almost completely installed in about 9 hours.
Here Clarabelle shows off the beauty of real hardwood and it’s durability against puppy claws.
I finally installed the trim, thresholds and tiles under the cabinets. I fairly pleased with how they turned out.
