This is what I’ve been up to.
Monday, December 29th, 2008This month I finally finished our upstairs bedroom out of necessity since my brother-in-law moved back to WI and is now living with us in that room. In fact I flew down to FL to help him move back which was a 24 hour drive. Fun. Also, I built a stool out of reclaimed oak which was a table leaf found in our attic. Yes, the same as I used for my shelves. Anyways, I posted the directions on those two projects on Instructables. Incidentally, if you happen to visit the site please vote. I really need some new tools from the Craftsman Workshop of the Future contest.

Sunday, October 14th, 2007You have to appreciate the French translation of dandelion wine. As you may already know I made dandelion wine this last summer since I had a nice crop on my lawn. My wife and I were quite impressed with how well it turned out. I managed to let one bottle age a little longer. I wish I would have let all of them age as long. The old saying holds true. So how did it taste you ask? Semi sweet with a slightly dry finish. I would recommend that anyone who has ever wanted to try their hand at wine making give this one a shot.

Ah yes, back to the point. I of course am talking about chickens. Not even male chickens (roosters) as the title misleads you, but hens rather. My wife and I like our house quite a bit and are pleased with the location. We can both walk to work (apprx. 6 blocks), have a nice back yard and it has all the quirks and charm of the typical century+ year old house. Something I have always wished I could have are chickens. Mainly for the fresh egg factor. My beautiful little wife and I are quite fond of eggs; in particular the organic, fresh variety. So after a few Google searches I discovered that another individual here in town had already done the leg work for me. Apparently the city will allow up to 4 laying hens providing the owner meets the necessary shelter and property line requirements. So, I’m shooting for this next Spring to buy 2-3 hens. I may get them from my uncle or my wifes uncle. First I need to build a shelter for them. Of course I will post all the proceedings up here. In the mean time here are a couple fun sites to check out if you should decide to do the same.

…and yes Brendan, the entire time I was typing this post all I could think of is that damn Adam Sandler song.
Nice floors = sore knees
Monday, May 28th, 2007All trimmed up.
Monday, April 30th, 2007Well, I finally have all the trim installed under the cabinets of our kitchen. Now all that is left on the agenda is a small area of paint on the walls and a tin ceiling to match the foyeur. But that will come later.

Sunday, April 8th, 2007Hmmmm, rent a movie or tear up a floor.
Thursday, March 22nd, 2007My car doesn’t like frozen gelatin any more than I do.
Tuesday, February 6th, 2007Bright and early this morning around quarter to 5. I headed on my way to work after allowing my car to warm up for about 20 minutes. After driving about 15 miles it died. I tried cranking it over a few times, nothing. After calling in to work to take a day of vacation and calling my wife to come pick me up I managed to get it started. After driving to the next exit to head back North on the highway for home it died again. I determined at this point that it was definately the diesel gelling due to the -0 degree temperatures. After getting it started, stalled, and started again I filled the tank up with some “Arctic” diesel and added another bottle of anti-gel. Which poured mightly slow; I have to say it had the consistancy of honey.
Notice a local bank temperature on my way home.

So hopefully I won’t have this problem the remainder of the week as it is supposed to warm up a few degrees. This brings me to this weeks favorite video. While I do appreciate the fantastic mileage that I get with my Jetta diesel along the the future potential to run it on waste veggie oil; when cold temperatures stop it dead I feel like doing this.
Ok, it’s either Old Man Winter or we have basement gnomes.

I’m now wondering if I can modify my Spider Rifle to suck up ghosts. A repeat performance by what I believe to be the previous owners of our house. Not nearly as exciting as previous occurances, I wonder if they are getting bored with us? Oh well, at least I shouldn’t have a hard time to sell when, if that time comes.
Have a read.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions for taking pictures or other forms of recording? I have the few taken with a film camera I’m just wondering if anything would show up should I set up a video camera.
